Architecture for Environment Artists

Join me as we visit a number of notable architectural land marks and discover what it is that makes spaces realistic, architecturally profound, and most important of all; Quality.

This series is meant for environment artists in games and films with a foundational understanding of how to design worlds. However it is also my hope that this series is both enjoyable and enlightening to all fans of architecture.

The Concrete Frame

The basic unit of architecture is the trabeated frame, a lintel on two posts. An ancient method of construction that goes back to the dawn of stacking stones. This episode will introduce the viewer to basic principals in tension and compression, a concept that will be your guide from Stonehenge, all the way to modern concrete frame structures.

Materials: Concrete

Design follows from the materials used, and in this video concrete is focus. From the early Roman discovery of concrete, all the way into it’s explosive use in modernity. We will cover the history of the material, it’s creation process, design considerations, and more.
